Highlander is an active part of the Central Appalachia Regional Network, that works to connect groups around policy issues in Appalachia. The issues of broadband access and local control of assets in rural communites are the current focus of this network’s policy work.. CARN works with other groups around the country to strengthen rural voices for policy needs. Highlander is also working to connect CARN’s work with young leaders in Appalachia, through participation in a broadband summit held in Whitesburg, KY; connecting with national media work and encouraging connections with the STAY network.
