There are large numbers people from Central America who, as part of their long journey in trying to immigrate to the United States, ride a train through Mexico nicknamed “The Beast.” These trains can be very dangerous and in trying to hop aboard many, many people have been injured and even lost limbs in an attempt to travel North in search of jobs and a better life for their families.

In recent months a group of 10 of these brave amputees from Honduras have decided to take their plight to Washington, DC. Doing so has proven to be difficult, but they are now stopping off, on their way to DC, in communities to meet with people and tell their stories and to try and gain support for decent and humane U.S. Immigration reform.

The Comite Popular de Knoxville and the Highlander Research and Education Center will be hosting these amputees this week and would love for folks to join them for an evening of conversation, storytelling and good food. See below for details and for links to some news articles.
